6192 Protect Router Control Plane

چکیده
This memo provides a method for protecting a router’s control plane from undesired or malicious traffic. In this approach, all legitimate router control plane traffic is identified. Once legitimate traffic has been identified, a filter is deployed in the router’s forwarding plane. That filter prevents traffic not specifically identified as legitimate from reaching the router’s control plane, or rate-limits such traffic to an acceptable level. Note that the filters described in this memo are applied only to traffic that is destined for the router, and not to all traffic that is passing through the router.

Status of This Memo This memo provides information for the Internet community. It does not specify an Internet standard of any kind. Distribution of this memo is unlimited. Abstract This document provides suggestions for measuring OSPF single router control plane convergence. Its initial emphasis is on the control plane of a single OSPF router. We do not address forwarding plane performance. NO...
متن کاملOn the Design of Next-Generation Routers and IP Networks
This thesis investigates distributed router architectures and IP networks with centralized control. While the current trend in IP-router architectures is towards decentralized design, there have also been research proposals for centralizing the control functions in IP networks. With continuous evolution of routers and IP networks, we believe that eventually IP networks in an autonomous system (...
متن کاملOn Joint Restoration of Packet-over-optical Networks
Recent advances in generalized multiprotocol label switching (GMPLS) [1,12] and the extensive study and understanding of packet-over-optical network architecture, has made it possible for a single integrated control plane to manage the resources of the packet network and underlying optical transport network in an unified manner. This opens up the possibility for coordinated actions across the t...
متن کاملA Programmable Router Architecture Supporting Control Plane Extensibility
The Internet is evolving from an infrastructure that provides basic communication services into a more sophisticated infrastructure that supports a wide range of electronic services such as virtual reality games and rich multimedia retrieval services. However, this evolution is happening only slowly, in part because the communication infrastructure is too rigid. In this report, we present a pro...
